Breast Cancer

Pittsburgh, PA

I have been a triple negative breast cancer survivor since 2006 and have been active as a volunteer as well as a consumer of information/education with respect to breast cancer. I regularly attend local, regional and national conferences. I have been a peer support contact for the ACS, MWH and the Young Womens Breast Cancer Awareness Foundation (YWBCAF) since 2008, allowing me to interact with many women at all stages of their diagnosis and treatment. Beginning in August of 2014, I was introduced to the Breast Cancer Research Advocacy Network (bcRAN) at Magee Women’s Research Institute/Women’s Cancer Research Center. I have served as the Project Coordinator for the group and now co-lead it with Dr. Carola Neumann. We partner with principal investigators (PIs) to add a patient-centric perspective to all phases of the research cycle and to complement breast cancer research. Additionally, we engage in patient and community outreach and education. The goal is to reduce barriers for patients to access clinical trials and to inform all about the benefits and necessity of successful trials.
